CULTURAL INFLUENCE IN
OUR MOTHER TONGUE
Perception of the students
of the instituto cristocentrico Del Caribe, Cartagena Colombia.
There are as many cultures as
places in the world and all of them have been created by the Human being; In
order to define ourselves, In other words, each culture is the reflection of
those who live it. Culture does not invent itself, it arises and it is
changing, as we are.
When we are born, we do not have the opportunity to choose our
traditions, our customs, those that characterize a people, if not that we are
chosen by those traditions, through the transmission of our ancestors or
fathers, of our society; In
this way, language becomes a fundamental aspect of culture, because without it
we would lose a great cultural heritage.
In the past, the spoken language was the only way to convey the customs
and traditions of each people. These were transferred from parents to children
and remained orally. Because of this, the original culture of the people
underwent great changes, Because languages in an unconscious way were affected
the cultures of the peoples And without forgetting that the influence culture
is a definitive aspect in the learning of the foreign language, taking into
account that ours was affected not only by English; If not by many foreign
languages.
Relation Culture and Language.
This relationship between culture
and language is instituted since ancient times which allows for a global
language. So English is seen as a foreign language, for not being spoken or
accessible in a native sense to a large number of people within our country. It is important to
understand as students of the English language, that understanding language
allows us to understand culture and each other. So when we have the eventuality
of assimilating language or being in contact with culture. We have direct entry
to recognize beliefs, values and other practices. That way language and culture
are not separated and cannot be, they are acquired together, As Arabski (2001)
shows in his text about the aspects of culture: It is vital to understand the
difference that can facilitate or weaken communication, "The cultural background of the speakers seems to have a serious
impact on the quality And in the amount of the Act of Communication. Members of different societies when they interact need to understand the
cultural differences that are likely to obstruct their communication process.
"
Influence of English language in
Spanish.
In our day Spanish is too influenced by the English language, because of
this reason, Because we borrowed the English language to adapt them to our
native language, these influences have entered through music, Fashions, movies
or series. This influence is known as Spanglish, Anglicisms, Extranjerismos,
this Spanglish has been intensifying since the colonial times in 1848, With the
signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. And now with technological advances
is born a new language that is known as Ciberspanglish, Phenomenon that had the
greatest diffusion worldwide with the explosion of the Internet that added to
our language new words such as: LINK- CHAT-MAIL-SURFEAR.
Finally Spanish is booming all over the
world, Where it is spoken by 400
million people, but without leaving the influence of English a lingua franca
that is constantly changing from the lexicon and the syntax of other languages.
